"I am proud to join with our students, staff and faculty to raise our voices in a call for the fair and respectful treatment of all."

“Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.” –Martin Luther King Jr.

On Monday, November 16, 2015, at 1:00 p.m., the Adelphi University community will come together on the University Center Plaza to stand in support of the University of Missouri students who were threatened in retaliation for their efforts to make their community a more inclusive and respectful place.

I am proud to join with our students, staff and faculty to raise our voices in a call for the fair and respectful treatment of all. Universities should be safe spaces for the exploration of ideas and the pursuit of knowledge–there is no place within the academy for acts, whether overt, subtle or unconscious–that marginalize any member of the community. As those who work each day to pursue truth, we have the responsibility to challenge acts of intolerance and racial bias.

Last week I shared a message with the community on my thoughts on how we can come together in creating a more inclusive environment. Monday is a great time for us to continue this important work. Please join us on the plaza in a demonstration of our courage to stand up for what we believe in and support those who, by intimidation and threat, may feel alone or disenfranchised.

Thank you.

All the best,
