Adelphi’s dedication to helping veterans earn their degrees is why we’re a Yellow Ribbon school. The Yellow Ribbon Program, which provides additional funds to military and veteran students, has nearly doubled the maximum for those funds so that students this year will receive $4,000, up from $2,500 last year.

“[The Yellow Ribbon Program] was able to help me match a tuition rate that the GI Bill wasn’t able to cover on its own,” said MBA student Gabriel Buitrago. A U.S. Marine who fought in Afghanistan, Buitrago said, “It was definitely a blessing to take advantage of.”

As another benefit for our veteran students, over the summer Adelphi renovated the Veteran Resource Center to provide more meeting space. Located in Hagedorn Hall, the center is the perfect place for students to learn more about local veteran service agencies and meet with Adelphi staff.

“By increasing the amount of money distributed in our Yellow Ribbon Program as well as creating a larger veteran resource facility, Adelphi continues to display its commitment toward our military students,” said Christina Wease ’08, academic adviser at Adelphi’s College of Professional and Continuing Studies.

From Deployment to Employment

As veterans and active duty military look to advance their education and career potential, they can count on the Center to find resources, such as mental health support, career development, information on upcoming events and veteran-specific sessions. In addition, the Center gives our veteran students the opportunity to meet with outside supportive agencies on campus, as well other vets, including those belonging to the Veterans Task Force.

“It’s truly inspiring to be able to witness such positive changes happening here at Adelphi,” Wease said. “Our student Veterans Task Force is dedicated to continue to advocate for these deserving community members.”

The Veteran Resource Center is one of the many reasons why Adelphi received the Military-Friendly® designation for the 2019–2020 school year. This classification measures an organization’s commitment, effort and success in creating a sustainable and meaningful experience for the military community. Adelphi is also ranked in the top 20 percent of military-friendly colleges, universities and trade schools in the country.

Last month, Adelphi was also named a U.S. News & World Report 2020 Best College for Veterans, Kristen Capezza, MBA ’12, vice president for enrollment management and University communications, said.
